About Y Lanfa / Aberystwyth Marina and Aberystwyth

The town of Aberystwyth evolved after the building of the Castle in 1277 and over the years it developed into a commercial and a fishing port. The port is now a recreational centre, with the Marina at the heart of the 23 acre area of the harbour; there are still eight registered fishing boats and three Angling Charter boats using the port. During the Victorian era Aberystwyth, with the coming of the railway in 1862, became a fashionable holiday resort and was described in many Guide books as the “Biarritz” of Wales.
