Harbour Approaches
The Harbour is located by Pendinas, conspicuous hill 120m high,
with Wellington monument at crest. The head of the north breakwater
on Wellington monument leads 140 south of Castle Rocks. The approaches
are dangerous in strong onshore winds, beware cross-tides and boulders
around head of south Pier and the Trap to the north of the north
breakwater. The leading lights, both fixed reds and white daymarks
on Ystwyth Bridge. Lead 133. The north breakwater is marked with
QWR 9m, R Sector (141-175) covers Castle Rocks. The south jetty
F1.(2) WG 10s 12m 10m. There are four FR (vert) on radio tower 2.8,M
to the south. The entrance is narrow with 90 port turn inside the
north breakwater head. The bar is immediately outside the head of
the south pier, at low water springs there is about 0.7 metre on
the bar when on the leading line. Boats drawing 3ft are advised
to enter up to 3 hours after and 3 hours before H.W. in calm conditions.
The Marina basin is dredged to a depth of 2.3m at Low Water Springs.
